Levi "Picky much?" I replied jokingly. I bit into another leaf and looked out toward the forest which we could see below us stretching for miles. I really hoped that out of all of that land we could at least catch one little animal. "Just leave some berries for the trap, we won't catch anything if we have no bait." I told Zayna, focusing back on where she was leading us.

Zayna "Picky much?" he joked, biting into another leaf. I watched as he gazed around at the miniscule forest below us and I realized we had climbed further than I thought we had. "Just leave some berries for the trap. We don't catch anything if we don't have any bait." I nodded as I took a couple more berries, deciding they would be the last I'd take. As I pulled myself up over a ledge, I glanced around, depicting our surroundings. As I looked to my left, I saw a small hole in the middle of two broken rocks. "Hey, Levi," I called down to him, waiting for him to climb up next to me. "What do you think that is?"

Levi She took a couple more berries and left the rest. I slipped thm back into my pocket and followed her over a ledge. She lifted herself up and glanced around, surveying the surrounding mountain face. She got her feet over the ledge and looked to the left, keying in on something. "Hey, Levi," she called down to me as I placed my foot into a shallow indention in the rock. "What do you think that is?" I grabbed the top of the ledge and extended my leg, pushing myself up far enough to see what she was pointing at. I squinted against the sun which was playing over the mountain tops and focused in on the cluster of broken rocks she was pointing at. There was a hole in the middle of them that looked just big enough to be the opening of... "I think it's a cave." I said not too sure to be excited about it yet.

"Hey, Levi," I called down to him, waiting for him to climb up next to me. "What do you think that is?" Zayna Levi lifted himself over the ledge enough to glance at what I was pointing at. "I think it's a cave," I answered slowly, not sounding too sure of himself. I looked at it closely, knowing it could just be the product of fallen rocks or the home of a wild animal, but I also knew we needed a shelter. "I'm gonna go check it out," I murmered distractedly, not waiting for Levi as I ventured over to the wide gap in the mountainside. I cautiously stuck my head into the opening and peered around, instantly realizing that Levi was correct: it was a cave. I slowly stepped into the dark and narrow space. The ceiling was low enough that I could touch it easily with my hand if I jumped, but it went far enough back that the space seemed open and unclostrophobic. I touched the walls with my hand, the dampness of the air cooling down my face.

Levi "I'm gonna go check it out," Zayna mumbled distractedly, forging onward towards the rocks. She went near it as I lifted myself up and to my feet. When she got to the crevice I could tell how big it really was. It wasn't really large by any means but I could tell it was definitely big enough to be shelter for the night. Zayna slowly and cautiously disappeared into the small cave as I caught up behind her. When I got to it I peered in and watched her touch the cool, damp walls. "Well, I guess this is home for tonight?" I asked, ducking slightly through the opening.

Zayna I leaned up against the wall and sank down to the ground, groaning in delight at the pleasure of getting off my feet. I turned my head towards the mouth of the cave at the sound of footsteps and watched as Levi ducked in. “Well, I guess this is home for tonight?” he asked as he looked around. I nodded slightly content at sitting and never moving again. “Looks cozy enough to me,” I replied.

Levi "That's one way to describe it," I said, looking back toward the entrance before a faced her again. "So what now? I could try to set up that trap near here and you could try looking for something to make a fire with."

Zayna “That’s one way to describe it,” Levi murmured, looked to the mouth of the cave then to me. “So what now? I could try to set up that trap near here and you could try looking for something to make a fire with.” “Sounds like a plan,” I agreed, grunting as I picked myself up off the ground. “But just know that I’m starving and if you don’t catch us something good, YOU might very well be my meal.”

Levi "Oh, please. You'd be lonely if you ate me." I replied teasingly. I trailed the chilled ceiling with my finger tips as I ducked out of the cave again and waited for her to exit behind me.

Zayna “Oh please, you’d be lonely if you ate me,” Levi teased, running his hand along the top of the ceiling as he ducked out of the cave. I followed suit and came out behind him, looking over his shoulder at the view in front of us. The height of the mountain finally hit me as I looked at the massive boulders all around us that slowly transformed into miniature trees and brush in the distance. The clouds were grey and ominous, threatening to let loose a flurry of snow at any moment as the wind slowly picked up around us. “Eh, I’ve had a lot of practice at dealing with loneliness,” I remarked quietly, distracted by the weather. “We better get to it if we want to beat the bad weather."

Levi Zayna came out seconds later and just looked over my shoulder down at the delving boulders and cliffs of the mountain. Far below the slopes transformed into the edge of the forest that spanned out for miles beyond our small cave. Above us the sky had begun to grow dark and the sun shrouded itself behind the thickening clouds. "Eh," Zayna had replied quietly. "I've had a lot of practice at dealing with loneliness." I looked back to her, my brows pulling together slightly as a ping of sympathy washed over me. I didn't know what she had been through to bring her to this point now, but I understood all too well the feeling of solitude. She kept her gaze on the sky and just went back to business saying, "We better get to it if we want to beat the bad weather." "Right. . . " I said, putting my thumbs in the jumpsuits' pockets and turning over my other shoulder to look behind me. I saw some rocks further up that looked promising to be the animal-crusher in my trap. With the clouds threatening to pelt us with snow I figured there wasn't time to waste. "I'm gonna head up a ways and try the high ground above the cave. Looks like everything you need is downhill from here."

Zayna “Right,” he agreed, putting his thumbs in the pockets of his jumpsuit and looking back over his shoulder. “I’m gonna head up a ways and try the high ground above the cave. Looks like everything you need is downhill from here.” “Guess I’ll head on down a ways then!” I replied, giving him a thumbs up. “Good luck!”

Levi "Guess I'll head down a ways then!" Zayna replied, giving me a thumbs up. "Good luck!" "Yeah, you too," I told her as I unhooked my thumbs and then turned my back to her and decided to get to work. I immediately trailed around the entrance of the cave and climbed up on top of the boulders that made it up. The ground was scattered with loose rocks and the occasional snow patch from the last storm. If I had just been out here hiking I would've enjoyed the scenery a lot more. The other mountain tops looked like faded shadows across the valleys and the might of the ridges in front of me was really something to admire, but at that moment I had a mission. I trudged up the slope, lifting my knees up close to my chest in order to scale the mountainside. I could feel my bruises now and knew how tired my muscles were, but I also knew that if I stopped working I wouldn't want to start again. I pushed on and scanned the area for a flat rock I could use. Finally, between two larger boulders, in a crevice, I spotted just the rock I needed. When I got over to it I stood next to the crevice and slipped my hands into the cracks, trying to tip it over and roll it out. After some grunting and tugging the rock came loose and fell into my arms. I crouched with it's weight a little bit at first but then got a hold of it and decided to pick a spot to set up my trap. I carried the slab to an area that was covered with a bit of dead grass and some snow and set it down in front of me. Using the two sticks I'd stuck in my pocket earlier, I crouched down and lifted the rock up, trying to balance it on the two twigs. After about four failed attempts I realized this was *not* going to be easy. I propped one end of the rock up on my knee and leaned over, cocking my head to the side to see what I was doing underneath it. I had the two twigs in my hands, trying ever so carefully to balance them against each other in a way that would support the rest of the trap. I held my breath, afraid that if I even breathed wrong I would ruin everything I'd been working so hard on. The tips of the twigs neared each other and carefully, *carefully* they met. I let out a clipped laugh to celebrate my success before centimeter by centimeter I started to let the rock down, slowly sliding it off of my knee and-

Zayna “Yeah, you too,” Levi replied, turning away from me. I sighed and began my journey down the rocky terrain. I knew to make a fire, we would need some dry bark so I stopped for a moment and scanned my surroundings for any type of forestry. I smiled in triumph when I saw a patch of bushes just a couple hills away from me. I quickly made my way to it, but noticed that it was separated from me by a crack in the mountain. I peered down the crack and saw that it made way to a dark, unending hole. I gulped, worked up some nerve, and then eyed it cautiously as I began to maneuver my way around it. Making it to the other side, I walked up to the bushes and reached down, about to begin my hunt for dry bark. But something, maybe instinct, stopped me. A low hissing noise rang in my ear and I looked at the bushes in confusion. Upon hearing it again, I decided I needed to figure out what it was so that I could get our kindling together. I reached down and carefully pushed back a piece of the bush, peering into the shadows. I was about to move on when suddenly, something snapped out at me, fell onto my foot, and slithered around my ankle. “AAAAAAGH!” I shrieked, feeling my blood curl in my body.
