Aaron shook his head, "No, I would rather spend time with you. Please, can I buy you something? At least something on this ship could make you happy..." he trailed off, not meaning to let his feelings of hurt slip through

Echo looked down, feeling guilty, "Alright," she gave in, unable to say no when the hurt was so clear in his voice.

Aaron sighed, shaking his head. "I'm sorry. Forget I said anything..." he walked off, defeated. Everything he did was wrong; either he was guilting her from his own hurt feelings or he was overbearing and it letting her adjust. It seemed as though she felt the best when he wasn't around...

Echo sighed heavily once he had left. She felt like she had to walk on eggshells around Aaron... and most of the people on this ship. And she wasn't safe at the castle either, talking to her mother was hard, too. And from what she had read in her diaries, it always had been. She traced her hand over the top of one of the books, waiting for the merchant to come back so she could tell him she didn't really want to get a book anymore. Her good mood was ruined, now.

Ray felt eyes on him, and looked up. He smiled when he saw it was echo, but frowned when he saw her face. He walked over quickly, "Are you alright?" He asked concern laced on his face

"Uhm, yeah... I guess. It's a long story," she told him, and then sighed. "I kind of have amnesia... and uh, well... Things are tense, to say the least. It's like... I walk into a room, and laughter dies. You know?" She paused, and looked up at him, "Well, you probably don't, but you can get the idea."

Ray looked at her with an emotion that wasn't sympathy, but of understanding and compassion. "Well, perhaps you need to walk into a different room?" He gave her a small, encouraging smile.

She just sighed, "Unfortunately, I don't have many other places to go. I'm uh, kinda the princess of this country so... I'm only allowed to be here, or at the castle. And I don't know which one is worse right now," she told him quietly, so only the two of them could hear.

Ray noticed her tone drop. "Come with me to my ship... A change of scenery may do you good? Eh?" He didn't even mention her being a princess, but he was a bit surprised. Then again, she was so lovely it made sense.

"That's really nice of you... but I don't think a young girl should be going off with a man who hasn't even told her his name, yet," she responded lightheartedly.

Ray smiled, "Raymond, but all of my friends call me Ray." He said, "And what of your name? All you've told me are these outlandish stories of a princess with amnesia. Perhaps you really are a thief out to plunder my generosity." He grinned

"Echo Elizabeth Smith, nice to meet you," She curtsied low for him, giggling softly. She straightened up and gave him a smile, "If that's not enough, I could take you to see the queen," she joked.

Ray laughed, "I thought we were trying to get you away from the castle, eh?" When he laughed the dimples on his cheeks became much more pronounced, but he didn't mind. They were unique, and though stereotypically feminine, he had a strong frame to offset his "pretty" face

"Oh, I am. But despite the people I chose to spend my time with, I'm not much of a thief. Well, at least for the moment I'm not."

Ray smiled, "Well I'm happy to hear that, Madame Smith." He leaned against a barrel, studying her. "I'll tell you what," he began, "I'll be back in two days time, but should you decide that you want a break from this life, you're welcome on board my ship. I'll have one member of my crew wait with a horse at the end of the dock every day at sunset and sunrise." He tipped his hat at her before standing straight. "I hope to see you soon." He smiled, and walked back to his men, who he began directing.
