restart pt. 1,000,000
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Echo hid in the bushes, watching the clamor in the castle. Guards were running around, shouting.
“The princess is missing! Find her!” they yelled, running past the bushes where she was hiding. Once they had passed, Echo got up and ran, getting off the palace grounds.
“There she is!”
“Shit!” She muttered, sprinting down the road and towards the village. She ran down the street, looking for somewhere to hide. Then she saw them — the ships in the harbor. She figured she could hide away there, just until she lost the guards. She maneuvered through the crowd easily, thanks to her small size. The guards were stopped by the crowd, shouting at Echo to stop. She looked over her shoulder and grinned at them, giving them a wave. She faced forward once more, looking for a place where she could hide — the crowd could only stop the guards for so long.
There. She saw it. A ship that was loading cargo, and there just so happened to be an empty barrel on their loading dock. Running up to it, she made sure no one was around. Quickly, she moved the barrel over to the rest that were being loaded onto the ship, so she would have a better hiding spot. She hid inside it, pulling the lid on right as the workers came back. She listened for the sound of the guards shouting, hoping that they would run past her hiding spot, and then she could loop around and lose them. Just then, her barrel was put onto its side, and began to roll. She fell against the side, covering her mouth with her hand so she wouldn’t make any noise. The guards were still close — she could hear them shouting — and she didn’t need her cover blown by these sailors.
Echo bumped against the inside of the barrel as she was rolled up into the ship, and then all of a sudden, she was upright again, and the voices were gone. She was about to get out of the barrel, hoping to explain the situation (a made up story) to the captain or the sailors or whoever, when she heard them. The guards were on the ship, asking the sailors if they had seen her.
“If you see her, please apprehend her and let us know.” One guard spoke.
Echo cursed mentally when she heard the sailor agreeing, and telling the guard that he would go alert the captain of the possibility of a stowaway. The guards left, and she let out a silent breath, trying to think of her next move. A sudden lurch in the ship interrupted her thoughts, causing her to lose her balance. She fell against the side of the barrel, but was lucky enough to have something next to her, so she didn’t tip over.
The ship was moving, which meant that Echo had inadvertently become a stowaway.
